Integrative Narrative:
This major was always of very much importance and interest in my life, it was always nice to have this idea of having a reflection of my families language and learn the culture and literature that came with it. Yet I never took it in full consideration, I chose this major while studying abroad for the first time in Madrid, Spain. While there I took many courses for my initial major, yet there was plenty that was fulfilled the requirement for another major which at first was going to be a minor and ended up being a Major.
I've learned so much about general ideals in life, because my classes have impacted me on another level versus Global Studies, this gave me a direct impact in the way that I see life and the cultures live in these regions through my classes, but most importantly my culture too. While in Madrid through these classes I got to learn about cinema, theater, history, culture, politics and all connect it back to where I came from, this all helped me realize where the Mexicans get some aspects, this made me appreciate that idea and cultural side of me. Yet when I went to Miami and being so different than here were we are the majority mexicans, there I was exposed to other nations and other versions of spanish which made me appreciate my version even more.
My personal experience as to learning and getting the most that I can from this experience, the majority of the classes that I took I took abroad, so for me this was very important, because as a Spanish BA major sometimes I felt a bit left out while taking the courses here, because I had taken mine all away, but I appreciate the richness that I got from those classes even more because I know that I got a different experience and a cultural selective experience to these things. For me the grammar, and linguistics portion of Spanish has always been a bit more complicated because I felt the need to watch or double think my sentences because I learned my Spanish at home, especially in a professional setting. So I am grateful for the courses that were able to teach me these things.
In general I know that I have learned so much through the past years, from my time in other countries to actually being at CSUMB developing my capstone, which has taught me so much about time management skills and trying to cope with personal and educational work, as well as the intention of trying to do more than you can handle. Being a double major made it a bit harder but at the same time I feel like it was worth it. In the future I hope to incorporate all the things that I learned through all the major learning outcomes of Spanish language and hispanic cultures and develop it into my teachings at Global Studies, I hope to incorporate both of them and have them be the building stones that I need for a future job, helping out my community and my people. I hope to keep reading and learning from what the basis that I learned here and only use it to expand my knowledge.
