Reflective Narrative Major Learning Outcome 5
Pathway 1:
Study abroad Madrid, Spain at Universidad Compultense de Madrid
While being here at CSUMB since I started I knew I wanted to study abroad, that was my first thing on my checklist, I wanted to go to either Italy or Spain, during my second year I started making the process and the applications as well as the research to go ahead and make the leap. I was very scared, but I applied to the one year program in Madrid, and even though it was competitive, I said that was the only place I wanted to go to. I later on got accepted and it was nerve wracking having to go through the whole process as well as the visa process and all.
The day came when I had to leave to Madrid, I had 10 days to find a house where to live in, get my courses in order and bring myself to get off the jetlag and start to enjoy the city. At the university as well as the class setting and at my house i went through a lot of changes and a lot of culture clash. But all those things taught me so much about myself that I didn't even know. The most impactful thing was the fact that at home or even in class the way that our spanish is talked is very different and not even the language but the way that the culture is, the difference is very prominent. So being in this experience and having to force myself to immerse in the culture taught me a lot about the spanish people, the language and the culture.
I take everything I learned from the ups and the downs, to the culture clash, to the food the travels, the courses I took while there to everything else, as the most benefitting lesson of my college career. This MLO is the most impactful MLO in my Spanish Career, when going to Spain i thought I was going to receive a minor and after coming back, I came back to do a Major, this is the reason I now have a double major. out of all of the Major Learning Outcomes this one right here is the one that has simply given me more understanding to the culture, language, as well as the everyday world and has taught me the most.
